The Central Highlands Region is striving to develop the game of cricket at the community level while at the same time providing opportunities for talented players, coaches, umpires and scorers to progress through to higher levels of competition. Listed below is a brief overview of cricket activities in the region. The Central Highlands Region was formed in 1999. The development of cricket within the region is managed by the Central Highlands Region Board and a full-time Cricket Victoria Regional Cricket Manager (see Contacts). The region is home to 8 cricket associations: • Ballarat Cricket Association (http://ballarat.cricketvictoria.com.au/) • Castlemaine & District Cricket Association (http://cdca.cricketvictoria.com.au/) • Daylesford & District Cricket Association • Gisborne & District Cricket Association (http://gdca.cricketvictoria.com.au/) • Grampians Cricket Association (http://grampiansdca.cricketvictoria.com.au/) • Grenville Cricket Association • Maryborough & District Cricket Association • Pyrenees Cricket Association The Central Highlands Region falls across 12 local government areas and in season 2008/09 comprised: • 94 clubs • 205 senior teams • 181 junior teams (including 1 'girls only' junior team) • 3 women’s teams (VWCA) • 32 Milo Have-A-Go programs • 153 currently accredited coaches • 44 Umpires 185 Grounds
Each season the region conducts the following junior inter-association competitions: • Under 13 "Sportz Biz" Junior Country Week • Under 15 "Sportz Biz" Junior Country Week • Under 17 Kirton Shield As part of the Commonwealth Bank Cricket Pathway (and other CV/VCCL coordinated competitions) the Central Highlands is represented by teams that compete in the following state-wide championships: Male • Under 14 Commonwealth Bank State Championships • Under 16 Commonwealth Bank Dowling Shield • Under 18 Commonwealth Bank Cup • Under 21 VCCL Championships Female • Under 14 Commonwealth Bank State Championships • Under 16 Commonwealth Bank State Championships • Under 18 Commonwealth Bank State Championships • Womens Country Cup Cricket in the Central Highlands is not limited to traditional club/representative competitions.
